Tell us how your journey has been from your beginnings until now.
West; It's been...interesting, to say the least.
Theo; I was inspired by a girl in primary school to learn drums. She performed and I thought it was amazing hearing live drums played well.
Corey; I started playing bass in High School for a few friends who wanted to start a band. I was very into Thrash and Glam Metal so the music that we tried to play was a weird mix. I decided to be self taught after having a few lessons as the teacher didn't now how to teach a bass player.

Tell us about your musical style, influences, ...
West; My main influences have been people like Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, and anyone I find interesting.

My influences as a bassist are Reggie 'Fieldy' Arvizu (Korn), Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue), Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse), Gene Simmons (KISS), Piggy D (Rob Zombie), Rune Nielson (Black Tongue), Paul Gray (Slipknot), Jason Netherton (Dying Fetus), Oliver Reidel (Rammstein).

Corey; I currently attended BIMM (British and Irish Institute of Modern Music) Birmingham in Digbeth, studying Music Business.
Theo:I recorded the last album with electric drums and multi sampled (recorded) my real drum kit and cymbal sounds and then used the midi I recorded with the electric drums to trigger the recorded samples.

1. Hey Percival Elliott! Could you introduce yourselves and tell us where you are from?

Good Day ladles and Jellyspoons we are Percival Elliott a folk rock band from the sunny south coast of the United Kingdom. 

2. Tell us how your journey has been from your beginnings until now. 

Olly and I worked in the antiques trade, trading secrets and antique rarities beyond ones imagination. One day we came across a magic lute which granted us but one wish. Foolishly Olly blurted out “I wish for us to become musicians” .Our finest rags were stripped from our backs, our pockets emptied and our minds filled with melody. Thus Percival Elliott was born. 

3. Tell us about your musical style, influences…

Influenced by old, new and everything in between. The Beatles, Elton John and Coldplay are huge influences our music, we both enjoy songwriters who sing from the heart about issues that influence and change our lives. You know like living in a yellow submarine, traveling on a yellow brick road and because it’s all yellow.

4. Can you tell us about the meaning of your new single ‘Betty’ and where the inspiration for that came from?

Betty is the story of a once famous star of the silver screen, a girl who has it all, the looks, the money and fame. Forgotten by her fans, Betty has nobody to turn to. Betty is tired of putting on a mask so decides to live it up for one last hurrah before the long sleep. 

I think we as generation crave attention, self credit and self analyses which hurts. We need to learn how to love ourselves again. 

5. ‘Betty’ is very different to your previous single ‘Forever’ - what else can we expect from your upcoming album?

The album is full of surprises, song’s of love, drugs and cats who captain ships during the expansion of the British empire. 

6. What’s next for Percival Elliott? When will your album Save Your Soul be gracing our ears?

We’ve already started writing and recording the follow up EP to Save Your Soul. We’ll be dropping Save Your Soul later this year, most likely accompanying a single called ‘All Messed up’ a ballad about making up with a loved one.

Tell us how your journey has been from your beginnings until now

I was first inspired to pick up a guitar after watching a concert by Cliff and The Shadows.   As a child I was also very influenced by many of the acts produced by Stock, Aitkin and Waterman as they were so often on TV and radio.  

I started writing songs when I was in high school and began recording them myself at home.  My first gig was at college where I performed an acoustic song I’d written myself called “Now The World”.  I spent the next few years writing and recording, developing my skills and techniques.    

In 2003 I performed at The Gig in Hollywood, Los Angeles and on returning home to the UK, decided to go live and started playing at venues around my local area including a gig for BBC Radio WM’s “Mad About Music” event.  

Whilst working on my solo songs I also worked with other local bands and artists including my own band Delta Savannah which I began with my wife Vicky.  Delta Savannah released an album called “Arcade” which we wrote together and we performed live for a couple of years.  We disbanded in 2014 as we were expecting our second child.    

I continued to perform solo and on bass for a local blues band, Scarbelly Blues and carried on writing and recording, releasing songs online.  

Tell us about your musical style, influences…

My musical style has always been very varied with influences ranging from artists such as the Bee Gees, The Beatles, Wings, David Bowie, John Denver, music from the 1920s and from around the world.  After hearing George Harrison’s Indian influenced Beatle songs and music by Ravi Shankar I started to learn the sitar and through my interest in Japan and Japanese animation I began to get into J-Pop and J-Rock/Visual Kei musicians like Miyu Nagase, GACKT and X-Japan.  As I developed my slide guitar playing I began to get inspired by delta blues musicians too.

My music is also very influenced by my personal experiences and beliefs, generally being quite positive and heart-felt.

What has been your last project?

My most recent project has been my blues inspired album “Husky Dog”.  I had an old 1960s Egmond acoustic guitar with such high action it was only really playable as a slide guitar.  I used it to write a few blues inspired songs which became the basis for the album.  

And the next thing you have planned?

The next thing I have planned is something quite different…still working on it!

   At the end of 2016 we released our debut EP entitled 'Papillon'.
   1. 'Papillon Theme', inspired by the cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment of Kelvyn's wife using the Papillon technique, this instrumental sets the mood of the EP.
   2. 'Wings Of Hope', is a 70’s progressive-style rock'n'roller which takes the symbol of hope of Papillon and really gives it some air.
   3. 'St. Martins West', reflecting on memories of growing up in 70’s Leicester within a symphonic, majestic rock song.
   
   In November 2017, we released our 2nd EP entitled ‘prdctbl:’.
   1. 'prdctbl:' is the Title track – from the pen of Andy, who features on lead vocal, drums and acoustic guitar.
   2. 'Tears' – Roy’s ambient composition, touching on the emotional subject of loss.
   3. 'China Dawn' – sensual, poetic musings of a fragrant Oriental day-break.
   
   The band is enormously proud of these 2 mini collections, as a definitive representation of where they have reached and where they are moving to – continually working and re-working a host of material - each member of a2RK contributing to the writing and arrangement of songs (including previous collaborations on co-written material from Adi – which have mercifully been saved ‘in the can’). Versatility rules, man – much more to come!

My name is Lee Rice, and I'm from North Wales, UK. 

My journey, especially these last 6 years, has been an epic, but also, a very rewarding challenge. 

When I left university, on a music performance degree, I decided to go it alone. I volunteered across Europe for nearly 2 years, with a plan. The plan was to develop my guitar playing, and writing, to become a travelling street musician. 

I figured this would combine my 2 main passions, travel, and music. 

As the next 4 years continued, it is fair to say that I found a lot more than I could have bargained for. 

I've now played in 445 places, in 30 countries. Somehow, I'm still going!

It's been crazy, with many challenges, which led to a lot of inspiration. 

The next plan is to record my work, mainly on the road, with several albums planned. I'm also working on a book about the journey. 

Currently I'm touring Norway, and next is Denmark, Holland, and then I will see. Maybe the UK and Ireland, then back to Norway. 

I'm not sure how to describe my music style. There is no doubt that I've been most heavily influenced, by the artists that have inspired me the most. In particular Pink Floyd, is in absolute first place. Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Tracy Chapman, David Bowie, Brendan Perry, Ray Lamontagne, and way too many more to mention. 

My current project,  the next album recorded, is now complete. It's called "Change our Minds", and I'm just waiting on the final production. It will be released across all digital networks, around the end of March. 

I will continue my journey, and then record the next album "Before it's too Late" in Gdansk, Poland, some time in April. 

I usually play 5 or 6 days a week, for around 3 hours per day. So, nearly everyday is pretty much a concert.

1.            What's your name? Steevo.

2.            Where are you from? I am French but I live in Oxford, UK.

3.            Tell us how your journey has been from your beginnings until now. I came to London first to find some people to make a band, I found some people and we made my first band, we got signed after our first gig! I was really happy : I got signed with my first band after my first gig! Then I was not happy about the fact that I had all these songs but we were going in another direction then I left the band. I moved to Oxford a year and a half ago to work on my solo album. I had the chance to get introduce to Marc, who plays guitar in most of the latest tracks that I recorded,  by my friend Illana Polatin-Reuben, who will join us at one point on the bass. I want to keep an electronic vibes with my music but mixing it with instruments. Having Illy on the bass will help me focused more on my vocals and create some sounds live. Marc is great on the guitar and hopefully we can drag my dear friend Kwesi back to play with us on cello. But it is hard to get everybody to play together we all got different commitments; That it why I’d rather focus on recording and hopefully shooting some videos this year than hopefully playing more live show from next year.

4.            Tell us about your musical style, influences, ... I love bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, Mylene Farmer, Serge Gainsbourg ( I have been listening a lot lately to his daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg latest album), Portishead, Radiohead, Placebo and many more artists. I love Goldfrapp one of the latest album I bought and always listen to. I l excited on the upcoming album of Ladytron.  I’m glad that they are coming back they have influenced me a lot I have seen them live many times and I love to see bands like them live just to see how they use keyboards, computers, live instruments, though a keyboard is an instrument for me like a computer: it’s all about the sound and effects that you are using like a guitar or a bass. I would like to record my next album with one of my friend, my favourite drummer: is name is James from the French band Nude. I have so many songs to record so I am “ keeping” some that will go well with a drummer.

5.            What has been your last project? My last project is my upcoming album : Angels and Demons. It’s about the duality in every one of us. How we need to try to find a balance. I am happy and honoured to be on the side of people who are making people having a good time, with my music, if some people like my music well I make them feel good for few minutes and that is priceless for me. I am trying to finish it this year and hopefully shoot some videos for some songs on it. That is my main goal and I am nearly done with the recording. Songs like “Eden’s Garden”, “ Change a man” , “ The Death Of A Party” ( you guys are playing this songs so much I’m so pleased thank you by the way! ), “Emergency”, “Filter” will be on it the other songs are getting recorded as we speak.

7.            Upcoming concerts, events ....  I think that we will be playing at the next London Anime and Gaming Con in London in July. It is a great place to play, I just played at the last one in February. I love japanes anime and I am planning to go full on anime craziness for the next one.

9.            What's else? One of my song “ Filter” has just been licensed by an American company that places music in movies, commercials, bars, shows… So I would love to get more of my music into movies, or video games stuff like that that would be so cool!

Final Coil

1. What is your name:
   

Phil Stiles. I’m the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of Final Coil.

2. Where are you from?

Final coil are a four-piece band from Leicester in the United Kingdom.

3. Tell us how your journey has been from your beginnings until now

Like a lot of bands, Final Coil started out playing in dark, sticky-floored bars around our local city. We formed in 2008 when I was joined by Richard Awdry (Lead Guitar / Vocals) and Jola Stiles (Bass) although it took us some time to find a drummer who was both capable and committed. The main thing, at that time, was getting out on stage and developing material. It was often chaotic and unfocused for sure, but it was also a lot of fun. Over time, we honed our song writing with live performances and slowly moved from a rather chaotic, feedback-strewn style to the more reflective, progressive-tinged sound we have now. In the process, we recorded a number of EPs – 2011’s ‘Live with Doubt’ and 2014’s ‘Somnambulant’ are notable because they showcase both out heaviest and our lightest material. The big change occurred in 2014 when Tony ‘Ches’ Hughes joined the band as our full-time drummer. He’s incredibly capable and open to developing the music  and so, in 2015, we recorded ‘Closed to the light’, our most experimental and well-rounded EP to that point. Each EP showed, I think, considerable progression, but it was ‘closed to the light’ that bought us to the attention of Wahoomi Corvi (who was to produce our debut album) and WormHoleDeath (the record label that released it). So, from then, we were working very hard on our debut album, although we did take time out to do the Metal 2 the Masses competition here in Leicester. We made the finals, which was amazing for us, and we got to play De Montfort Hall, which is a huge and beautiful venue. It definitely helped us hone our stage craft and we really enjoyed playing with a bunch of great local bands including Temple of Lies and Beckon Lane. After that, we were mainly focused on getting the album finished. Overall, it’s been a lot of work, but it’s also been a huge amount of fun. I love the creative process, and each EP (as well as the album) took a lot of pre-production, where we worked on the demoes in our home studio before committing to record them.

4. Tell us about your musical style, influences

Well, we’re heavily influenced by the likes of Tool, Anathema, Pink Floyd and Alice in Chains and I believe you can hear those elements in our sound for sure, However, we’ve also incorporated a number of more unexpected elements into our music and it those elements, I think, that make the band rather more than just a copy of our primary influences. All of us have different musical backgrounds and where my background is predominantly in alternative rock and metal, Richard’s early influences err towards the indie/alternative side of things. Ches definitely has strong metal leanings, although he is also a versatile musician who has been involved in a number of very different projects and Jola started out playing flute in big band.

For me personally, I think that you can take influences from so many places and I never came into this thing with the attitude of “I want to sound like….” because, if that’s all you want to do , you may as well form a cover band! I think that there is a certain way that I write riffs that echoes my stronger influences, I guess that’s inevitable, but the way the songs evolve as we work on them often is often unexpected and I would struggle to point at one of or songs and simply say that it is reminiscent of this band or that band. Partly, that comes from the fact that the themes incorporated into the lyrics are often quite powerful and they also tend to push a song in a unique and unexpected direction. Mainly, however, it comes from the fact that we’re such a diverse group of people that we’re always looking for an interesting angle. We have songs (buried away) where we’ve looked at the demo and just found nothing that has sparked our interest and that’s because it was too formulaic or too staid and it just didn’t work for us. The most important thing, for me, is that we  write the music that we want to hear, so although our influences are important, it is more important to step away from them and to try to always be true to yourself when making music.

5. What has been your last project?

Our last project was our debut album. It’s entitled ‘Persistence of Memory’ and it was the result of two years of hard work and development. It’s difficult to say, because of course I’m very close to it, but I believe it to be the best thing that we have done as a band thus far.

It was also an incredibly exciting project to be a part of. It started when we were contacted by Wahoomi, who had heard our EP (‘Closed to the light’) and who suggested that we might like to collaborate. He showed me some of his work (some if which, incidentally, I already knew) and he offered to put us in touch with WormHoleDeath. To be quite honest, the whole thing seemed so fantastic that I didn’t hold out much hope, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to send over the full EP. A few weeks later, we got an email saying that the label was interested and from then on it was a case of negotiation and development. I love our music and I’m very proud of what we’ve done, but it never really occurred to me that a label would be interested in helping us get it out there, so I pretty much remained convinced that it was all going to fall through until we actually had the contract signed, because I was always waiting for a catch which, thankfully, never came. From there we started developing the demos that we had prepped with the label’s input. In the end we wrote twenty songs for the album, but what we actually recorded was very close to what we originally suggested. The latest additions were ‘in silent reproach’, ‘moths to the flame’ (which Rich wrote) and ‘lost hope’ and I’m so glad that we did wait because they’re all songs that developed during the production process and they all came out really well. The other tracks were ones that had long been honed in the live environment, so we had a pretty good idea what worked and what didn’t, although some things were further developed with the labels suggestions.

Finally, after almost two years, we flew out to Italy to record with Wahoomi. I can’t tell you what an experience it was, because my words fail me, but as someone who had always dreamed of having the opportunity to make an album, the chance to spend three weeks in a beautiful town (with a view of the Alps) in Northern Italy with a passionate and capable team was just amazing. Every day I leapt out of bed just wanting to get back to the studio to do the next bit – I am a huge music geek and I love the production side of things -  and it was just fantastic. We had 19 days, running right up until Christmas Eve that year, and we made good use of the time, layering elements into the tracks and developing the record.

Right from the start, I knew this had to be an album and not just a collection of songs. I didn’t know if we’d get the chance to do such a thing again, so we made sure that this would stand as our legacy come what may. That’s why the songs are ordered as they are, to allow for an ebb and flow across the record that (hopefully) creates a dreamy, ethereal vibe reminiscent of Pink Floyd. I love the idea that an album can take the listener out of themselves, if only for a little while, and that’s what I really hoped this record would do.

6. And the next thing you have lined up?

Well, I’m afraid I can’t go into too much detail as we’re busy working on something very special and I’d hate to give away the detail before we have all the pieces in place. What I will say, is that we’ve been working very hard to develop a piece of music that draws upon the strengths of the last record, but which has its own unique elements to offer. We’ll be sharing details a little closer to the time, but I can promise you that, if you liked the first record, that we’re not going to disappoint you with our next outing…

Well, because we’re working hard on this new project, we’re not playing too many gigs as time is short. We are, however, playing a special gig on April 2^nd at the Musician in Leicester with the Italian band, Asphodelia, which will be an exciting night. Being somewhat disillusioned and fiercely independent in 2008 (after completing a Degree in Music Composition from Coventry University) Kristy became an Independent Artist. She formed her own independent record label; Broken Player Records and has been self sufficient ever since.

A prolific songwriter, she is continually songwriting her way through life and regularly tours on the acoustic circuit to audiences across the UK. With a strong live presence of carefully crafted songs and exciting fresh guitar work Kristy continues to grow and expand her loyal fan base.

Kristy won the LG Arena’s singer/songwriter competition and played before Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood and John Mayer on separate nights at the LG Arena in Birmingham. Subsequent to the competition win, she was invited back to the LG Arena’s Forum live to play before Elton John, Paul Weller, George Michael & Roxette.

In addition to her own shows she has supported Ed Sheeran, Micheal Chapman, Scott Matthews, Glenn Tilbrook (Squeeze), Mr Big, I Am Kloot’s John Bramwell, Miles and Erica (Wonderstuff) Mark Morriss (Bluetones), Show of Hands, Nic Jones, Vin Garbutt and Nerina Pallot.

Kristy has released 3 studio albums, her debut ‘Emotional Gun’ (2008), ‘Spinning Plates (2012) and ‘The Game’ (2014). ‘Emotional Gun’ was subsequently selected for the British Library Project which achieves significant new music. She has also released 4 Eps and live album from the Historic Troubadour, Earls Court, London.
