Martina Doerner's review: "Caricature" by The Counteracts @dorner_martina @thecounteracts

Today I want to introduce you to The Counteracts, a collaboration between Simon J. Biscoe and Doug Smith, based in Kent, UK.
They have been making music together since January 2015 and vary between their own and cover songs. Their first album "The Curse Of The Counteracts" was released in 2018 and now the second album  is out
"Caricature"
The Album:
"Caricature (Intro), what a great start for the Album, after the first tones you look forward to more.
"Spanish Fly", a song you want to dance to and the castanets fit perfectly, I like the very harmonic backing vocals in this song.
"Life Is Unreal", one of my favorite tracks. A harmonious melody and very well chosen lyrics. Fits perfectly in this time where everyone wants to be young and hip.
"Love Plays These Silly Games", a song about love and everything that goes with it, good and bad. Well sung with a groovy piano riff.
"Hold Me Tight", after the first few bars you already bob your feet,
"Strange Girl In My Dreams", a silent song with a great sound and a very nice guitar solo, I like especially the part of backing vocals they do in this song.
"I Can Never Win", a song with a wink, humorous yet with a more serious background, the melody, paired with a few reggae influences gives a good flow.
"A Place In My Heart", another wonderful love song, coherent lyrics and great vocals, reminding me of the Beatles.
"The Disenfranchised Blues",  a critical look at the different parties and the election fatigue of the people, a very political song in blues style.
"The Love That Dare Not Speak It's Name",
sad song about lost love, which shows that the Duo can also strike quite serious notes.
"Incurable Romantics", my second favorite song from the album, I love the lyrics and the catchy melody.
"The Witches‘ Waltz", more spoken than sung and performed great, kinda spooky and I love when the verse passes into the choir.
"Whistling All Alone", again a bit calmer with fantastic instrumental elements and a great solo in it.
"Caricature -Reprise", makes the album end as it begins, absolutely worth a listen.

With their second work, Simon and Doug again managed to produce a fantastic album.
Songs that life wrote, sometimes sad, often funny and with a touch of humor. It never gets boring to listen to the great voices of the guys and and the way they deal with their instruments. A successful mix of lo -fi  and Brit pop. You can really find all moods here and all this accompanied by catchy melodies, very good lyrics and absolutely harmonious instruments.
Highly recommended and I am sure you like it as much as I do.

Martina Doerner review: "It won't change a thing" by Montana Musical Experiments Project @bcpmusic1 @dorner_martina

Let me introduce you to the "Montana Musical Experiments Project" and the new album "It won't change a thing".
MMXP is a one man project founded 1996 in Lund/Sweden by Alexander Ahlstrand.
Started with home made tape recordings by using acoustic and unplugged electric guitars and a Casio keyboard, he sold a couple of self-produced cassette demos at local music stores in Lund. He then helped to form the psychedelic rock outfit Soundescape which released 2 CDs and was also joining the DJ duo The Mantra Brothers in 1999.
After focusing on making art and animation Alexander released the single "No Liberty", a foretaste of the album which I present to you today.
The album"It won't change a thing" without exaggeration is nothing for a cozy summer night and that you can hear on the side, rather, it requires the listener's full attention. It sounds like a story being told, a story of protest and the fight against oppression in the Trump era.
"The Choice We Make"  is the start of a relentless billing with society and everything that goes wrong today. And this fight against oppression, paternalism and domineering rules runs through the entire album.
"Making Calls" is a song with a sick bass line
a bit in the Arabic style and it sounds like a call to a prayer.
"This little Piggy".. take a nurse rhyme, work with it and you get a brilliant song with great lyrics.
"The Greater One"  a song about Donald Trump and very politic.
"No Trust" is about the political landscape in America and the feeling that nobody can be trusted. An epic end of the album with a fantastic guitar solo.

These are just a few songs from this fascinating album.
However, it is not that you lose hope for improvement, it is rather an encourager who shows that it is always worthwhile to stand up and fight for your rights and never lose hope.
An album that is so completely different from everything I've heard so far and that will certainly not only leave a lasting impression on me but everyone who hears this impressive work
Get a picture of this really brilliant album, listen and remember that we can only change something if we stand together.

Fonz Tramontano new EP. A review by @dorner_martina @musictramontano

Today I want to introduce you again to the fantastic Fonz Tramontano who just released his new EP " Can you feel my love".

Fonz is an indie/synth producer and artist from Sheffield/UK and he's mixing and mastering all of his songs at Mileven Studios in Sheffield.
With this new album he has once again managed to produce something very special and I consciously say again because the previous four albums are a masterpiece of Synthpop too!
The Album:
"Can You Feel My Love" is a good start for a long night in the club. Just listening to it makes you want to go to the dance floor and enjoy the beats, a great mix between synth and the vocal parts.
"Watch Me Fall", a song that should definitely be heard loud to feel the rhythm and the intensity of the instruments and of course this song is extremely danceable too with strong energetic vibes.
"Love To Love", fantastic vocal part and a song that makes you feel as if it was only made for you and your partner to dance the night away.
"Can You Love Me", bouncing drums and a rousing saxophone solo, you can feel the groove from the beginning to the end.

"Real Love" completes this EP perfectly with
the great melody and at the end it feels like you've found the real love.
As in the previous albums, Fonz Tramontano understood how to present a great piece of music and that shows us that we don't really need the 80s to hear fantastic synth pop.

Martina Doerner interviews Bomba, musician from Stuttgart @bomba_378 @dorner_martina #tiorrblog

Today I am looking forward to an interview partner who lives "around the corner": Bomba from Stuttgart

Welcome and thank you for your questions and answers
It would be nice if you could introduce yourself briefly.

Hello I'm BOMBA, 35 years old and a talented music artist from the Stuttgart area who has a vision. My genre is Latino Pop with a mix of 2 languages.

How did you get into music?  Was it a dream you had as a child?

I liked singing in the shower when I was a child, or on my way to the football training
At 16 we had a band that covered Backstreet Boys on firm.  After this time there was a break of a few years.  Until I decided to do something of my own, write my own texts and record them.

Tell us about the creation of a song, do you think of the lyrics spontaneously or is it a longer process?

My songs are about things I've experienced, from negative to positive.  I always try to process it and hope to be able to help people or to make them dance.
I'm writing my texts always really fast, but I'm usually never satisfied and always try to make it perfect.  It is different, there were texts that were finished in a few hours and others just a few days or even weeks.

Are there certain artists that inspire you?

Yes, of course, Pietro Lombardi is one of them.  It inspires me that he knew he wasn't the best singer but he did it out of passion like me.  That was his success and everyone saw it.

You mix German and Portuguese in your songs ... that makes your music very unique .. how did you come up with it?

First of all, I didn't want to do anything that everyone is already doing.  Nowadays you only stick out who you do your own thing in your own way and best of all what brings new things to the market.  Since I knew there was no such thing, I thought it was a good idea. It was also important to me that I don't imitate anything so that there is no headwind. The hardest thing now is to convince people.

Do you have role models or musicians with whom you would like to be on stage?
Sure, I would  like to play with Maluma, Nicky Jam, Ariana Grande, Luis Fonsi, Kay one or Pietro Lombardi, because I think that you can combine them well and end up with something awesome.
And when you're on stage, what about stage fright?

I remember my first appearance where I wrote a song for my sister for her birthday.  When I wanted to sing it at their party, I had a complete blackout and couldn't do anything.  That got me ready and then I worked on direction. The next gigs were also very nervous, but it was mastered.  Today I enjoy it on stage and hardly feel any nervousness because I really enjoy seeing everyone singing and dancing.

What do you do when you're not making music?  Do you have hobbies or do you still have time to pursue them?

I like to spend time when with my family or friends and life partner. Unfortunately there is usually not much time for hobbies because I always work on new projects. But when there is time I like to do sports or go swimming to switch off from everyday life.

What kind of music do you like to listen to?

So I actually hear everything across the bed as long as it sounds good. But currently I prefer pop, reggae, dancehall and rap music.  It is important to me that I can be reflected in songs.

Is there a specific place or location where you would like to perform?

To be able to appear on Ibiza or Spain and Portugal would be a dream. A big festival would also appeal to me, otherwise in the Schleyer Halle in Stuttgart. I will continue to work hard to make my dreams come true.

What do you think, how much do social media influence music and how active are you there?

I think social networks are the most important thing today, it would probably not be possible without them. The problem is that there are too many artists and the hardest thing is to stand out from everyone else. I am very active in social networks so that I can present myself and my brand.

Is there anything in the music industry that you would like to change if you had the opportunity?

Definitely! What annoys me is that you can't get over it without investing in marketing and promoting. And every artist who starts over has not made yet the big money,so how can he promote his music well?
You can be the best singer but without putting a lot of money nobody will find you.
And the big labels mostly work with artists who has already built up something. So the question arises what can the talented do who simply don't have the money? They perish or are never discovered.

Are there things that really make you angry and what is it that makes you totally happy?

I get angry when people speak my music badly without seeing the work behind it. Above all, it is always people who have achieved nothing themselves. Can such people judge others who make an effort and work hard for it? Don't think….
I am totally happy when I am on stage and see everyone join in, move and sing out loud.  It always makes me proud to see how people share this happy moment with me.

What are your plans, what can we expect next?

Next up is a first big event on May 9, 2020 where I can share the stage with the star singer Emanuel Oficial from Portugal. It makes me proud that I get the opportunity after 1 year. Before and after as always, new projects will come out. In the fall I will take a break and make an album for next year.

Thank you very much for this really interesting conversation and all the best for your future projects.

MUCH ACCLAIMED BRIT ROCKERS REVEAL NEW SINGLE & VIDEO!
UK alt-rockers SALTLAKE make a triumphant return with their engrossing new single, Bitter Pill - https://youtu.be/vuR5soLuMHk
SALTLAKE have engineered a sound that merges hooky choruses with expansive and soaring guitar work, and a beefy rhythm section that will blow the roof right off. The Sussex rockers are a trio with their roots firmly embedded in modern alternative rock. With their hard hitting, high octane live shows, the crew resemble rock giants of days gone by, yet their fresh sound will drop you straight back in the present day for something new and invigorating.
The UK tunesters have been making waves on the scene since the release of 2017’s Medicate Me EP, which placed the up-and-comers on the map. The release was widely lauded by Alex Baker at Kerrang! Radio, with the EP’s lead track, Badlands - racking multiple plays and unequivocal support. Since then, the alt-rockers have notched up further praise from Planet Rock, Kerrang! Radio, Dead Press, Hard Rock Hell Radio, Moshville and Maximum Volume Music.
The threesome are now primed to move up the ladder again with the release of their hugely anthemic new single, Bitter Pill. The single effortlessly balances melodic hooks with razor sharp riffery, framed by a thoughtful arrangement, and electronic soundscapes. Vocalist and guitarist, Henry Gottelier, remarks about the track: “Bitter Pill is a metaphor for the struggles of everyday life—being lost in a society that you just don’t seem to fit into, and the anxiety that comes with that—being the person that someone relies on, but never having it returned.”
With a flow of material planned for next year, as well as a series of profile live shows, 2020 is destined to be the band’s big year.

#tiorrblog Nalé

Nalé is an indie folk-rock band from Lausanne, Switzerland. The Band was formed in 2011.
Inspired by Wilco, Tom Waits, Elliott Smith, Shannon Wright, The Cowboy Junkies, or The Black
Keys Nalé takes a tender and nostalgic look upon what happens on the outside.
Their fist album named “Les contre-jours” was released in 2012 and gained several Swiss music
awards in 2013. It has therefore been regularly played on the French Swiss Radio.
With the release of their second album “Behind The Scenes” in 2016 the band continued their
musical research with English lyrics and more bluesy sounds and went even more into depth
with their 2018 EP “Blind Souls”.
An unplugged version of Nalé has been tested lately at a living concert. It was a great success!
There is no doubt, it is within such an intimate atmosphere that the depth of Nalé’s poetry and
music are best expressed.

High flying UK alt-rockers MAVEN have just dropped a brand new video for the track, Stronger Than You https://youtu.be/kOpMU2X7qJs , which is taken from their breath-taking new EP, Am I Awake?, out now.
MAVEN pull everyone from Thrice, Bring Me The Horizon, Architects to Don Broco, and despatch a sound that is soaked with layered guitars and anthemic vocals.

A slew of live shows with everyone from Crazy Town, Elliot Minor, The Feeling, Dream State, and Normandie to Deaf Havana, has increased the band’s stock, and so too have recent compelling headline shows. BUSHI - The Flawless Avenger
Bushi is the brainchild of Alessandro Vagnoni (drummer for Bologna Violenta, Ronin and
multi-instrumentalist for his onemanband project Drovag), here as guitarist and
composer/arranger/lyricist of all the songs. The debut album (self-titled) has been released
in September 2017 via Dischi Bervisti, an independent label run by Nicola Manzan
(Bologna Violenta, Ronin).
Born as a trio, Bushi is now a quartet with the sax player Sergio Pomante (ex-Ulan Bator,
String Theory) joining Davide Scode (bass) and Fabrizio Baioni (drums).
Credits:
Music and lyrics: Alessandro Vagnoni
Vocal arrangement: Davide Scode and Alessandro Vagnoni
Bass and vocals recorded by Davide Scode.
Drums and tenor saxophone recorded by Sergio Pomante at Noiselab Studio.
Guitar, mixing and engineering by Alessandro Vagnoni at Plaster Productions.
Mastering by Sergio Pomante. Drawings and graphic design by Francesco Farneselli.

The iconic and lyrical imagery of BUSHI is inspired by the Samurai epic, characterized by
the contradiction between pride and disgrace, refinement and cruelty, prestige and
decadence. The texts are short poems (haiku, a typical meter of Japanese poetry), each
inspired by the precepts of the military and philosophical schools of these noble warriors.
In this record all the haikus were made starting from the events or precepts contained in
the Hagakure book (the title of each track contains the reference to the chapter and
paragraph).
